I am so glad to read your blog...I have no idea how things will look in our adoption...I am trusting God in this process, but it weighs heavy on my heart at different points. I wish it was simple, but then I wouldn't want to choose the simple, easy road...thank you for sharing.

Attachment with teens is challenging. For every year you need to give a month. For a 16 yr old... 16 months, etc. We brought home a 15, 16, and 17 yr old 13 months ago and have found the attachment process takes time. We're still not there... it will be a process... a life long process.

Good info Kari! You know one of the things that caught me so off guard was my own attachment. We talk so much about the attachment of the kids to us that it took the focus off me and thinking how I might feel. And, I was so infatuated with the pictures from our referral and other families that I just assumed that I would melt into them when we first got them. The hard truth is it was awkward and uncomfortable and I needed to attach to them as much as they needed to attach to me. After 4 months with the kids (for those who don't know we adopted older children) we are all slowly getting to know one another. It's a little like doing things backwards. We come together as a family and have to learn to love after doing so. Most of the time we love first and then make the jump into "togetherness". Love takes time for all to grow even the momma's and the daddies and I never really got that until the minute we got our babes :)
